Is it correct to say, 'heartfelt congratulations' ?
'Heartfelt' is a term generally used while expressing sympathy and sorrows
Even though there is no grammatical error in using 'heartfelt' as in 'heartfelt congratulations', the term 'hearty' is considered as more appropriate to congratulate or wish somebody on his or her achievement. On the other hand it is more appropriate to say 'heartfelt condolence' rather than 'hearty congratulations'.
Of late the terms 'heartfelt ' or 'hearty' are being interchangeably used across the world. I have come across a page in a well known greetings cards site for "heartfelt congratulations ecards". The term 'heartfelt' is being increasingly used to express any situation involving a deep or sincere feeling . Nowadays it is not uncommon to listen to expressions like, 'heartfelt gratitude', heartfelt thanks', hearty condolence, etc.
