Difference between 'Up-to-date' and 'updated'?


'Up-to-date' and 'updated' are closely related terms with distinct meanings.

When you are 'up-to-date', it means that you are well aware of the current or present information about a thing or a situation. It is used an adjective.
Example: The website gives an up-to-date information.

'Updated' information indicates that there was a previous information or situation which has been made 'up-to-date' now. In other words, the available information was old hence new or current information has been added. The term 'Updated' is used as a verb.

Example: All the PCs will be updated with the new software.
Both these words are sometimes used interchangeably.
