English Grammar Exercise - Wh-questions


This FREE Online English Exercise/practice test  on wh-questions is helpful for all type of competitive exams and for self improvement.

An interrogative sentence is a type of sentence which always asks a question. There are two types of interrogative sentence.

1.YES or NO question For example, “Do you like sweets”? is a yes or no question. In other words, this kind of question can be answered in yes or no. Such a question begins with an auxiliary verb or a helping verb (examples; do, does, did).

 2.wh-question, For example, “What kind of sweets you like” ? is wh-question. This kind of question begins with a question word. Since most of the question words what, when, where, which, who, whose, whom, why begin wh, such questions are also called as wh questions. These questions cannot be answered in yes or no. Instead, a statement has to be made in reply to the question.
