The words ‘a’, ‘an’ and ‘the’ are called articles. The articles are used to point out persons or things and hence are used before nouns. ‘A’ and ‘an’ are indefinite articles. ‘a’ or ‘an’ is used when we do not speak of any particular or definite person or thing. ‘The’ is called definite article since it is used when we speak of a specific or particular person or thing.
