Girls everywhere face a lot of issues. She is choked by society, her own expectations and is torn apart between her own dreams and her responsibilities. In the wake of the International Day of the Girl Child, 2020; keeping in mind the theme "My Voice, Our Equal Future", I have composed the poem - "The Light in Darkness".

Withered and agonized- the woman is cowering.
Unable to escape the clutches of men and
The grasps of society.

Throttled, choked, devastated women.
To give birth - is life;
To feed the family - is her duty;
To take care - is her routine.
But never to be taken care of.

To be an equal, only in dreams;
To be noticed, only for the wrong reasons;
To be appreciated, only in fantasy;
To have freedom, only in reverie;
She longs to be cared for.

Hope I bestow upon you, my beloved child;
For your inner beauty and your strengths to be seen;
Not to be judged, commented and gossiped upon.
You are the light of tomorrow, in my eyes;
To the world too- I hope and I pray
