If I was a superhero I would be a girl to stop time. I need this ability because I need to do the daily chores, complete my assignment and homework, play and spend time with my friends, and I’m not getting sufficient time so I need this ability. My greatest motivation is GOD. I would like my origin to be from heavens. I would want to have the ability to heal people.  I really have no desire to be invisible or capable of flying.  Instead, I would want the powers to heal others both physically and mentally.  This is an attitude that I believe to be useful to the world and result in beneficial improvements.

Generally a superhero’s goal is to do well and assist others.  There are multiple ways in which a person with special powers could accomplish this feat.  Although I believe that having the ability to heal people would suit me the best. Obtaining this power would not require me to wear any elaborate costumes or outfits.  Instead, I feel that I would prefer to dress like everyone else as to not distinguish me from others.  Showing our abilities off to the world can be detrimental as it may give you a large ego.  If I ever acquired this gift, I hope that I could spend most of my time using it to the best of my capability.

I understand that when people have immense powers we all have the tendency to become hungry for more and can misuse it.  With this ability I would be capable of healing people by mentally wishing them to be better.  This simplistic and minimal ability would be easy to carry out and be able to be accomplished quickly would remain who I was but would most likely carefully guard my gift from the prying curiosities of others.  This special talent may not be the most exciting or exhilarating as being able to fly or shoot lasers from your eyes, but it would still contribute greatly to the improvement of humanity.  This is essentially the purpose of having a superhero power.

Today my friend asked me a question. What would you do if you were a tree? Trees are one of my favorites. They are one of the most essential and useful thing in this world.  I always loved the thick lush coconut trees around my house.  If I were a tree, I would have provided shades and nest to all those who lives around me.  Birds would have found a sweet home inside me. I will inhale lots of carbon dioxide and exhale fresh oxygen for all living things around me. My legs will penetrate deep into the soil and will suck water through my roots to quench my thirst.  I will produce beautiful flowers and fruits and lots of children will come and play with me. I can imagine children climbing through my body, plucking and eating fruits and playing using swings. I will make our surrounding cooler and also helps to produce rain. More interesting, I will be watching all of you from the top, as I am the tallest in our surrounding.

We all love dreams, especially good ones. Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam once said ‘You have to dream before your dreams can come true’. I dream to become a millionaire. But there is a reason why I think I should earn big money. I belong to a middle class family and I have one little brother.

My loving parents supports me well and fulfill all my wishes. But sometimes I see my parents struggling. So if i become rich, the first thing I want to do is to support my parents so that they can take some rest .Then, I will fulfill the wishes of my little brother. He is fond of toys and his biggest dream is to go to Disney land. With money, I can easily fulfill his wishes and take my family to Disney land. I will surely save some money for our future needs as well. Whenever i travel to my school, i used to see lots of children in the street begging for money, cleaning cars and selling balloons. I used to wonder why those kids were not going to school .Once I asked my father about them. He explained to me about the problems of poverty and told me that some of them are even orphans. I felt really sad that day and realized how lucky I am. If I am a millionaire, I will surely support them by donating money to support their needs. I will also open a school for them and will provide free education.

I remember how our watchman uncle in my school once struggled for his son’s treatment. We all donated some money for his treatment. I will construct hospitals for the poor and old aged people and will take care of them. I know that simply dreaming will not make one rich. I need to work hard and study well to make my dreams come true. Every day ,I pray to god to keep me focused in my studies and inspire me to work hard so that one day I can become a millionaire and help others.

The heat was unbearable. The desert was slowly engulfing all of land. Our once beautiful plant was drying up.

There had been talks of explorations to find an alternate solution to escape the increasing heat. But nothing conclusive came out of it. Rumors of the rich people disappearing in bunkers built below the red ground was fast gaining prominence. This was creating a social unrest amongst the people trying to survive. Some even talked of a new planet far away that had abundance of water and air for everyone to live happily for thousands of years. But it now looked like a science fiction story.

I climbed the high mountains and stared at the sky. Would there be planets like ours out there? With living people. With mountains and rivers like we use to have. So many electronic messages sent across the universe for years have found no response. So many coded messages that have been found in the empty space have made no sense. Time was running out. The number of dead has been increasing on a daily basis. The rivers were fast disappearing; the people have lost hope.

As I searched the sky and the vast lands, the mirage in front of me reminded me of my childhood days. The air was so fresh and the water so pure. The sounds were so much clearer. Today it’s all sand and the harsh hot blowing winds that can be seen and heard.

The believers wait with hope for the change. For the crusader who will come to rescue our world. Others accept the fate and blame the generations that didn’t bother about destroying nature. There was not much of the ozone layer left and the sun’s heat was fast heating up the planet. The changes it brought have been terrible. Dangerous diseases have taken toll of half of humanity.

It was getting dark and I had to head for the settlement fast. The nights brought calm to the planet but at the same time the eerie darkness was nauseating and dangerous for us.

As I walked home, I heard a sound. I was sure I heard someone move beyond that large rocks. The winds had died down and the sounds were becoming clearer. For a moment I thought I saw a red flash. Cautiously I moved away from the rocks fearing it may be one of the deformed animals stalking for food. The red light made me curious. What animal could emit such light? Our energy sources had completely depleted and the little remaining was in hands of the rulers and meant for preservation for the habitat.
And then I saw the strange being move across the rocks. For a moment it stood still and looked at me. As the winds completely died down, I could see it more clearly now. It was strange and looked like a machine.

A strange red light emitted from its forehead and its legs looked like huge wheels. Its arms protruded like some kind of drills and hooks. Both of us looked scared and amazed. The machine began moving slowly towards me. I was not sure if I had to run. Or was this part of a government project? But where are the controllers and how come we weren’t told of such experiments outside the habitat? It slowly rolled over towards me. It emitted a strange sound as though a coded message of sounds in long and short syllables.

And suddenly it stopped. All movement and sounds stopped. It arms where pulled to its side and all the lights and sounds switched off. It was as though the machine went to sleep. I moved towards it. It looked like some advance kind of machinery. Though we had built a few machines like this before the Heat Wave, I had not seen one so advanced.

It looked like the machine was searching for something. It had so many pistons and arms with lot of storage space. It has strange markings over it and a language which I couldn’t understand. I put my arms around it and tried to lift it. But it was too heavy and wouldn’t even move on pushing. It was getting dark and I had to move faster to reach the habitat before shut down. I quickly made a survey of the location where I had found the machine and ran as fast as I could to reach home.

My excitement knew no bounds and I spoke to council about my strange discovery. A team of specialists were immediately listed and put on standby to move out first thing in the morning in search of the machine. Was it proof that the rich people were indeed building an alternate city underground to save themselves? Were they the ones that operate these strange machines? Or did our years of space research finally find fruit and have people from other planets arrived? But how do they survive the climate outside? Why did the machine shut down? It wouldn’t be affected by the heat and gases. We would have to wait for so many answers.

As the first rays of the sun hit the land. The red planet woke up from its sleep. The machine switched itself on and the Mars Rover Curiosity went about its job collecting data for mankind on Earth.

Tuesday 23rd June2015

Yesterday I and my friends went on a short picnic to an amusement park. We reached there at about 10a.m. We were six of us. Even though we had reached on time there was a serpentine queue for the tickets. I took the entrance ticket. The first ride we took was the Fury Wheel. It was really big, all of us were yelling and crying! After that we went on a Pony Ride which calmed everyone. Then there was the big Octopus ride, the individual seats revolved on its own and at the same time each hand of the octopus went in a circular motion. We went for two more rides The Ghost House and the Roller Coaster, which also took a toll of us. The dashing car was fun to be in! We dashed each other’s car. Then we decided to have lunch. Each of us had brought some food to eat like sandwiches, fruit juices, pastas etc. Our mothers took care that we don’t eat food from outside. After that were the rides which we all were waiting for-the water rides. We went in all of them without any hesitation. The Wave Pool and the Rain Dance were my favourites. Atlast we saw a 5D movie. This movie took us through broken bridges, steep mountains, dilapidated houses etc. Finally it was evening and time to go. It was such an enjoyable and memorable day. All of us had met after a long time. We were all sad while returning home.

It is the monsoon season all around India. In the news we have seen rains lashing out in many parts of the country. Mumbai is already flooded. We the Mumbaikars have got used to water logging and floods. Children really enjoy the rain and the floods. This year it turned from bad to worse. All schools were closed, thank God it was declared a holiday by the government, the previous day itself. We stayed indoors and watched life through our windows. Water entered the flats in the ground floor. All the neighbours helped them shift their belongings and stay with them. So, my friends were staying with me. My parents don’t allow me to stay over in a friend’s place, so I was happy that now my friends were staying with me. Our neighbours were really sad. They had to bear with the loss that the rains brought. My parents were stranded in their work places. Some of them were waiting in the railway stations and bus stops. My mother, who goes by train reached three hours late and finally when she reached, it was declared a holiday. Many trains were cancelled, as the tracks were full of water. My mother had to wait in the station for about three hours, and later stay in a friend’s house that day as there was hardly any transportation available to our place. Although I enjoyed, I was a bit sad that my mother would not come that day. My little sister started crying when she didn’t see her mother, as usual. Mother also was much worried. My father struggled to put her to sleep. The next day also the rains did not stop. I could see some boys with tyres, swimming in the flooded water. The children in our building went to the terrace and floated paper boats. All the aunties who were at home made kachories and pakoras. It was as though we were on a picnic, with delicacies being served on and off. The main door of the flats were left open, we did everything together, and it was fun to run around. My sweet mother came by 12 a.m. the following day. We were happy to see her. My sister couldn’t stop pecking her cheeks, it was as though she was meeting her after years, she hugged both of us and started to cry. This rainy season was such a memorable day.
