Taj Mahal is a magnificent architectural beauty situated in the banks of river Yamuna in India. It was built by Emperor Shajahan as a dedication to his wife Mumtaz in 1643. It is considered as one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It is in this place, the tomb of both Mumtaz and Shahjahan is located. The legend says that after the death of Mumtaz, Shajahan decided construct a suitable everlasting monument for her and ended up by constructing Taj. Irony is that the final days of Shah Jahan’s life were spent helplessly looking at his most loved Taj Mahal ,as he was captivity by his own son Aurangazeb in a fort across Taj Mahal.

Taj Mahal was constructed using pure white marble and is one of the most splendid pieces of architecture in the world. Its estimated that a total work force of about twenty thousand workers were involved in the construction of Taj Mahal which took approximately 20 years to complete. In 1983, UNESCO declared Taj Mahal as a world heritage site. Since then the place attracted a lot of domestic and international travelers and is currently one of the top tourist destinations in India. It is estimated that around forty thousand people visits Taj every Day. Sadly, off late, industrial pollution around Taj Mahal has threatened to destroy her beauty.  Taj Mahal is losing its original color because of heavy air pollution from factories situated around. Many efforts and on to reduce the effects and the courts have even ordered to shut down the pollution causing factories around Taj. This essentially raises the importance about the conservation of our ancient heritage building and also about the threat of Air pollution and its devastating effects. It’s our duty to protect Taj from destruction so that the next generation can see and appreciate her beauty making it truly everlasting as wished by Emperor Shahjahan.

In the 89 years of British rule in India, Britain’s only commitment was to loot India and suppress Indians using brutal power. All through the history, the nationalists protested against the invasion of their mother land and demanded freedom. Britain adopted strategies at all level to counter and crush such movements. In 1919, the British government passed the Rowlatt Act, a law which gave unlimited powers  to the government such as political cases can be tried without juries and permitted keeping  of suspects without trial. This was implemented based on the recommendations of Rowlett’s committee in1918.

There was a sudden uproar across India against this act.  Mahatma Gandhi appealed to the people for peaceful protests across the Nation. On April 13, 1919 a protest meeting was planned by the local people at Amritsar’s Jalian Wala Bagh. The day was remarkable as it was Baisakhi, one of Punjab’s biggest festival. Anticipating protests, General Dyer, the acting Commander of Amritsar banned all public gatherings. People ignored general Dyers order and thousands gathered.  General Dyer along with a battalion of fully armed soldiers marched toward the venue and blocked all exits. At 5.30 PM General Dyer, without any warning ordered his soldiers to fire at the unarmed crowd. The brutal nature of General Dyre was evident that he ordered his soldiers to focus the fire power to where it was more crowded. It was estimated that around thousand men, women and children was killed in that action. Many were killed in the stampede which followed. This cold blooded massacre by the British boosted the nationalistic spirit among Indians and more massive protests were followed. India ultimately won freedom in 1947. Twenty years after this incident, Udham Singh,  who managed to escape from the Jalian Walah bagh  as a young boy , later turned as a revolutionary  and  killed  Michael O’Dwyer. Michael O’Dwayer was the Governor of Punjab in 1919  who had supported General Dyer’s massacre plan.

The ultimate sacrifice of hundreds of nationalist Indians at Jalin Walah Bagh should always be remembered . It is a gentle reminder to all Indians about the cost at which the freedom is enjoyed today.

Respected  dignitaries  on and off the dais and my dear friends,

Today i am going to talk about Hiroshima Day

71 years ago, the then president of USA, Harry S. Truman took a decision. He decided to use Nuclear Weapons against Japan with whom they were at war. A decision which annihilated thousands of people, ironically in the name of  saving thousands of lives from the unending war. Hiroshima Day commemorates 6 August 1945, the day when an atomic bomb was dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima, followed by another dropped Atomic bomb on the city of Nagasaki.

It is the only instance in human history ,where a nation used nuclear weapon against another nation. The bombings effectively ended World War II by bringing about the surrender of Japan, but at a terrible price .The two cities were  destroyed and casualties, mostly civilians, were estimated at around 200,000, with many more people dying later from injuries and illness. The Bomb coded little boy destroyed 70 percent of the Buildings in Hiroshima and generations suffered due to the effects of Radiation. The incident shook the world and brought into light the terrible aftereffects of nuclear warfare. Antiwar movements and Nuclear disarmament movement strengthened around the world .While the debate over the US decision to bomb still continues, Hiroshima Day is now a focus for anti-war and anti-nuclear discussions and demonstrations. The collective vision, dedication and hard work of Japanese people powered Japan to rise from rubble and today Japan is world’s third largest Economy.

The day reminds all of us the irony of killing thousands to save thousands, war and its terrible destruction and the today’s need and importance for universal harmony and peace.

So friends, Lets all take a pledge today that we will always work together towards spreading the message of  mutual respect, peace and harmony and will never endorse any acts  of violence.

Thank you

India was ruled by the British from the year 1858. Queen Victoria was declared as the Empress of India. This rule continued until 15th August 1947. On 15th August the British left India and India got its freedom, since then 15th August is celebrated as the independence day of India. The British had divided India into India and Pakistan. Pakistan celebrates its freedom on 14th August. That is the day when Pakistan was separated from India. Every year on Independence Day,the Prime Minister of India hoists the Indian flag on the Red Fort in Delhi, which is the capital of India. Twenty one gun shots are fired in solemn honor. He pays tribute to the great leaders who lost their lives in the freedom struggle. It is followed by a speech by the Prime Minister. The Indian Army and the paramilitary forces organizes a march past on this day. It ends by singing the national anthem. The Chief Ministers of the respective states also hoists the Indian flag in their states. Various parades and cultural activities are also held. In every schools, colleges, government offices the national flag is hoisted and there would be speeches by eminent personalities. We can see the Indian flag fluttering in the streets too. As a mark of respect small flags are displayed on vehicles and also on the dresses of the people. 15th August is a public holiday in India as it is a national festival-the Indian Independence Day. We Indians should take care that it should not be a day of celebration and flag hoisting alone. It is our duty to educate our future generation about the struggle our leaders faced. I think that all educational institutions can enact a drama or depict something about the life of a freedom fighter, so that a feeling of patriotism is inculcated in each student. In this way pupils will be made aware of the hardships faced by our great leaders. Thus we can be sure that they will not take for granted the freedom they enjoy now, which is granted to them at the cost of the lives of our great freedom fighter.

Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus. It falls on the 25th December and is celebrated around the world. Christmas carol groups visit each house along with a “Christmas father”. Kids love Santa Claus as he gives them sweets and gifts. Carol groups sing songs and dance. One of the famous carol songs is “Rudolf the red nosed reindeer” which narrates about a reindeer pulling the sleigh of Santa Claus. Jesus was born in a manger and to represent that people make small cribs in their homes and churches. A crib is usually made of dried hay. There will be small statues of Joseph, Mary, the three kings, shepherds, cattles, donkeys etc. There will also be a small statue of an angel in the crib. It represents the angel who guided the kings and the shepherds who were grazing their cattle to the manger. Jesus’ father Joseph was a carpenter and Jesus’ mother was Mary. It is believed that an angel visited Mary, who revealed to her the good news that she would be the mother of the divine child. On Christmas Christians go to church wearing their new clothes and wish each other happy Christmas. People from other religions also join their christian friends and participate in the festivity. It is a day of joy and celebration and there is a partying mood all around.

Rama means goodness and ayana means journey, Ramayana is the journey to goodness.

Namastae, today I am going to speak on relevance of Ramayana in todays life. I believe most of us know Ramayana, as the story of rama and sita going to forest and Ravana being killed. Do we ever think more than that? Friends that is not Ramayana. Ramayana is one of the most valuable assets, manifested to elaborate human values. Ramayana is relevant because the stories embody timeless values and inspire us to broaden our consciousness from me to we. Ramayana offers us a panorama of jewel like personalities who embody the spirit of sacrifice. Ramayana answers the deepest problems faced by an individual and depicts the triple qualities of satwa, rajas and tamas.

We cannot have a person with all good qualities but Valmiki brought Rama as an epitome of virtue & an idol of dharma before us with all 100 % qualities to teach us what is duty, truth, bravery, being an ideal husband, ideal son, ideal brother, and ideal ruler, exemplifying righteous behavior to the individual, the family and society. Ramarajya is a nation of excellent prototype government, is what we want our bharat to be.

We should not just read Ramayana but understand the essence and make a dent in our personality. It exposes to us many values like dashratha fulfilling his promise to kaikeyi though he had to separate his beloved son teaches us to keep up promise.
Similarly, Rama’s sacrifice in accepting exile to honor his father’s words shows deep love and devotion to parents. Dashratha’s separation from Rama led to his death shows children how much parents love their child which will make them more respectful and devoted to parents.
Sita’s sacrifice in preferring to go to forest with Rama, offers value of marital bond, which has devalued today. Rama and Sita set the ideal of conjugal love.
Laxmana’s sacrifice to stand by the side of Rama serve as an antidote for the superficial relationships that is seen among today’s siblings.
Bharat’s sacrifice in refusing the kingdom offers a signal lesson for the many disputes among siblings for parental property.
Kaikeyis selfishness lead to the anguished death of her husband, inspires us to safe guard ourselves from selfishness.
Old Jatayu’s valiant fight against ravana teaches us to be courageous and challenging.
The most important shloka in ayodhyakanda –Raamam dashartham viddhhi, maamvidhi janakathmajaam, ayodhyam attviim viddhi gachchha tat yathasukham.
This is Sumitra advising Laxmana to look upon rama as dashratha, sita as me and forest as ayodhya and depart happily. Noble mothers like her are needed today. Rama’s forest journey teaches us to accept life’s ups and downs happily. Rama’s humbleness led to his victory but ravana’s excessive desires and lust ruined him.In Rama’s 14 years of exile, only 6 months after sita’s abduction was very tough, so we must understand that in life’s drama, both aspects of happiness, sadness, winning, losing, success, failure, will be present but we should play our role nicely.
Modern marechans attract us but they will end us up in trouble.

There are several MANAGEMENT lessons.
Team motivation by Jambahvan is a classic example of good manager helping hanuman to realize his potential.Hanuman’s first lanka trip guides us to ascertain our goals, make plans and analyze the strengths and weakness of our competitor.Rama has shown how to create competent leaders, believe and motivate your team. He teaches us no work is big or small by acknowledging the small squirrel’s contribution in making the bridge.Ravana’s last message to rama was things that are bad seduce us easily, we run towards them impatiently , but things that are actually good, fail to attract us, that is the wisdom of life.

You will object saying if we sacrifice like this we will be exploited and that’s why Ramayana is not for imitation but for inspiration, not for duplication but for appreciation of the principle of sacrifice. Ramayana is an educational medium demonstrating important values to imbibe in children and aspire them that these life redeeming lessons will enrich our lives and make us self oriented.
This was not written based on religion but for human beings to uplift themselves from ignorance to light.
Ramayana is still the reality so take a pledge for an inner rama to dwell within you.
Can you enjoy the taste of different dishes biryani, paysam, gulab jamun by just repeating the name. No, you can enjoy them only when you eat. Similarly, Ramayan is of no use if you just read. Practice it and see how your life changes.
Thank you
