Generation gap in simple words is the difference of opinion between two generations on different issues. A particular age group of people think in similar pattern. This pattern differs with the age groups. It may be regarding anything like values, music, life style, politics, culture, etc., this gap has always existed between all generations.

When we are kids we always listen to what our parents tell us. We believe in everything they say. We blindly follow them. We never give much of a thought whether it is true or false, good or bad.  Then gradually as we grow we try to think individually. When we do things in our own way we tend to ask questions like why? What for? Why not the other way? etc., so we try to see & do things in different ways. We try to know the logical reason behind things. We accept new things and learn more about them quiet easily, while our parents would always want to follow the older way. This difference of thinking leads to generation gap.

My father says that he never sat in front of his father. He feels that is the way father and son relation should be, but I want my father to be like a friend to me, to whom I can share everything. My father doesn’t like the present day’s trendy music. And I can’t enjoy the olden day slow music. Elders always have a saying attached to their comment, “In our good old days, this never happened”. The dressing and hair style is the main topic in which the arguments begin. Even though fashion is something that repeats itself, elders never like the ones that the younger ones love. This generation gap is not confined to a particular gender or community. Be it male or female, rich or poor opinion clashes are always there.  We often see that father and son supporting two different parties Political parties. Sometimes this sort of debate is good for the development of the country. But same can’t be said for a family.

The older generation people always feel that their childhood days are the golden days. The younger generation avoid doing things just because it is told by the older people. This goes on and on like a cycle. As yesterday’s kids are tomorrow’s senior citizens. Accepting the positive changes is a must. Each generation should respect each other’s likes and dislikes, there by filling the so called generation gap.

It wasn’t exactly the longest time ago that I went there yet the memories are ever so fresh. I mean, how could someone forget such an exotic place? It all started last summer when we set off to grandpa’s place. To be extremely honest with you, I wasn’t really excited. I did try to somehow avoid going there but I guess the odds weren’t in my favour. It was a long journey from Kuwait and a very tiring one indeed. Finally we reached grandpa’s house and I have to admit, I was pretty judgmental earlier. The place was phenomenal. It was a quiet country isle. We had reached just in time for sunset and were lucky to capture the picturesque sight of the golden sun melting into the sparkling blue waterfront. Fireflies were buzzing about and illuminated the naked trees. The view soothed me and the tiredness left my bones that instant. The next day, grandma took me to the barnyard where her domesticated “family” lived. I have to tell you that I felt so much more connected to the land and sky. I never thought something as basic as a country side could be so marvelous.

However, the best part hadn’t come yet. During one of these days grandpa told me about this favourite hiding place when he was a kid. This led my parents, grandparents and I on an unplanned picnic.  The forest was absolutely enchanting and for a minute I felt I was in the set of a movie! Leaves paved the path to the deepest ends of the forest. I was kind of scared at first as I wasn’t used to the insects and reptiles along the path. Grandpa however, told me about his “heroic” adventure in the woods when he was about my age. He had an encounter with a python and rescued all his friends. This somehow gave me a sudden surge of adrenaline and I was determined to be a mini scout girl too. The forest turned out to be magical. Not the spells and powers type but it sure felt like that. The creepers that hung from the trees behaved like a curtain. Upon walking through, one is greeted with lilac and elderberry on either side. A thin brook of water flowed down the path due to the overflowing of the riverside nearby. The skies always had a tainted orange and blue hue. After the long walk our feet were sore. Grandma suggested that we must sit by the rocks and snack on her homemade chicken sandwiches and drink some cold orange juice. The feeling was exhilarating. My hair flew across my face as the warm loo blew through the forest and the trees rustled. The water droplets which were carried by the wind sprinkled lightly over our faces. Father insisted on taking a canoe ride down the lake, just how he and friends used to when he was younger. A fisherman down the lake offered us a ride. It was just like in the movies, a wild water rafting experience. Even though we were drenched from head to toe, our smiles proved that it was totally worth it.

We also set out to some of the heritage sights in the vicinity. I was simply awestruck by how even in olden times the construction was so deftly put into work. Every wall had intricate paintings and designs on it. The most admirable thing was the people’s intellect. Each and everything had a purpose and a designated place. The next 10 days flew by so fast that before I knew it, we had to bid goodbye to the countryside.

Despite its dearth in technological advancements and concrete skyscrapers it was a beauty in its own. After this trip I preferred the quiet farmyards with little shacks, magnificent flowers and animals of different types, its sweet-smelling air and out of this world scenery. I could run across the fields of golden any time of the day and wade through the silvery waters. I had foamy eyes before leaving. I promised my grandparents I’d be back, back for more adventures in this now familiar place. Back to submerge myself into the roots of this place, back to the place where my heart truly lies.

A visit to any place can be an amazing adventure as wherever you go it becomes a part of your life. The one place I never get tired of visiting is the beach even though I have visited it so many times. One can always wonder how visiting the same place always gives different experience as each time we visit a place it is a completely different story .By the very act of coming back you wipe out whatever came before. The beach is just an amazing place to be, just listening to the sound of the waves, feeling the cool breeze across my face and my feet emerged into the sand makes me feel so relaxed, peaceful and completely free as though, I am in a magical place so calm and beautiful .And as you sit there and keep dreaming the beautiful sunset appears, “which gives your heart a change of mood of the day that you had rude”. Oh, how beautiful it is. Sunsets are a proof that no matter whatever happens in your day, each day can end beautifully .Being in this beautiful moment is the best escape anyone can have from reality for a little while .Looking at the  beautiful sea rushing wild and free but stops with a gentles touch on your feet en kindles my soul. Even though at the end as we walk away the sands my brush off, the salt my wash away, the tans may fade away. But those beautiful memories will remain .At the end of the day life is an art of drawing which can never be erased .So, as long as you make beautiful memories and have fun a visit to any place is an amazing journey that can never be forgotten.

In our lives, we get to meet so many people. Out of these ‘many’, there are always a few, who are not a part of our family but they are our family. They are our FRIENDS. We as students are completely free with our friends; talking, laughing and joking around. Friends will be always caring and considerate, and they will be there when we need a help. We might also meet people who are not actually our close friends but we cannot say they are not our friend. These kinds of friends are often termed ‘Hi-Bye’ friends and such a relationship will not last long. A valuable friend is that person who will be by our side to encourage, motivate and support us; whether we are happy or sad, whether we are healthy or sick, whether we are near or far away from them. We celebrate ‘Friendship Day’ every second Sunday of August across the globe. Common, yet sweet, festivities on this day include friends tying friendship bands to each other, exchanging gifts and sending greeting cards. Even if gifts are not given, bracelets not tied or cards not sent, friendship day could be celebrated with simply giving a phone call to your friend and remembering all the beautiful memories that you shared together. True friendships can never break-up over silly issues and they are everlasting.

It was one of the most memorable day in my life when my father announced that the coming weekend we all will go and watch circus. I couldn’t control my excitement and jumped up and down and I don’t know how I managed to spend that Saturday night as I was not able to sleep properly. The day came. The show was scheduled for 4 PM. Myself, my sister, dad and mom took a 20 minutes’ drive to marine drive where the great Majestic circus was running for the last one week. We grabbed our tickets and took a front row.

It was a huge tent arranged in a dome like circular shape. As expected, it was a full house. The show started with a spectacular introduction light and sound show by the dancers. The clowns then took the stage. Then came the gymnasts with their amazing show of flexibility and acrobats. It was breath taking when the gymnasts were performing the trapeze acts and tightrope walking. I was thinking how much efforts and training these guys might have underwent to perform so precisely. A single error would have been disastrous even though the safety net was there in place. It was then the turn of cyclists. The balance and the control shown by them was truly unbelievable. I wish I also could perform some stunts like that with my cycle. This was followed by the motorcycle performance called death well. The motorists performed inside a huge well like structure and mesmerized the crowd with some amazing and daring stunts.

Finally, it was the turn for the animal show which I was anxiously waiting for. Initially different parrots came on cycles and elephants played cricket. Off Course, the balls used were footballs. One of those balls landed just near to my seat. Lions and the black panthers behaved like pets, listening and obeying their masters. It was only at the end of the huge group show, where all artists took the stage I realized that three hours have past and the show is going to end. That day remains one of the best days in my life.

Today’s children are tomorrow’s leaders. The future of our world depends on the way our young generation is protected and nurtured. Formal education plays a key role in it.Child labour is a social evil which exists in many countries even now, where children are forced to work instead of going to schools. Thus formal education is denied to them. Even though the percentage of child labour decreased from twenty five percent in the sixties to ten percent in this decade, according to the United Nation statistics, an estimated 215 million children aged between five and seventeen worldwide, are currently involved in child labor. This staggering figure shows the seriousness of this problem. The issue is considered to be worst in Africa.  The reality is that child labour also exists in its worst forms such as slavery and trafficking, debt bondage and other forms of forced labour, forced recruitment of children for use in armed conflict, prostitution, and illicit activities.

There are primarily three reasons for child labour. They are poverty and economic exploitation, lack of schools and lack of awareness. Across the world, poverty plays a predominant role for the increase of child labour. The decision to drop schools are often led by the inability of the parents to support their child’s education. Sometimes unavailability of schools in local areas also contribute to this factor. It is estimated that, currently we have a shortage of 8 million teachers.

Only an effort of global scale, involving countries and governments across the world, along with citizen’s involvement can fight this problem. The United Nation and The International labour Organisation has taken several global initiatives to eradicate child labor. These efforts have resulted in thousands of children being withdrawn from work and rehabilitated or prevented from entering the workforce. Another noted person  who is in the forefront of this battle is the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize winner Mr. Kailash Satyarthi  who dedicated himself to protecting child rights for over three decades now, freeing 80,000 child labourers ,giving them new hope in life. Every Year June 12 is celebrated by the United Nations as ‘Word Day against Child labour.  It the duty of every citizen around the world to make sure that his or her child goes to school. As children, we can also play our part in this initiative. If any of our friends are struggling with his or her school fee or any educational need, let us offer a helping hand. We can conduct awareness programs among the poor about the importance of education and request our parents to support poor students. Let’s dream about a world where all children happily go to school and get empowered.
