Nikola Tesla  is known as one of the greatest inventors of all time.He made many great inventions like alternating current, tesla coil, remote control, etc. that changed the world, most of which are even used in our daily lives today.Let us learn a little about this intellectual’s life.

Nikola Tesla was born on 10 July,1856 in Smiljan, Croatia.Tesla was a prodigy, and could perform integral calculus in his head.In 1973,he contracted Cholera ,and his father ,who initially wanted him to become a priest, promised Tesla that he would be sent to the best engineering school if he recovered from his illness, and so he did.He did exceptionally good the first two years of his college, but in his third year,he got into into gambling and lost all his tuiton money and allowance.Realizing his mistake , Tesla  gambled back all his money, but he didnt have enough time to prepare for his examinations, and so, he did not receive his grades and did not graduate from the university.

In 1882,Tesla got employment in Paris with the Continental Edison Company. Here he gained an excellent deal of practical experience in engineering. In 1883,while he was in Strassburg for a work assignment,Tesla constructed his first ever induction motor. In 1884, he left the company and sailed to America and landed in New York with four cents,a few poems of his own and calculations for a flying machine. In 1888, the head of the Westinghouse Electric Company in Pittsburgh, George Westinghouse, bought the patent rights to Tesla’s polyphase system of alternating-current dynamos, transformers, and motors. This gave rise to a tug of war between Edison’s direct current systems and Tesla’s alternating current approach, which eventually won.

Soon,Tesla set up his own laboratory and where he could get innovative freely. He invented the Tesla coil in the year 1891,which is used today in televisions and other electronic appliance. He invented the X-Rays in the year 1895.Since there were fears on the safety of alternating currents,Tesla once lit up lamps by allowing electricity to pass through his body.In 1898,Tesla made public his invention of a boat guided by remote control.

He stayed in Colorado Springs from May 1899 to early 1900.Here,he made an excellent discovery-terrestrial stationary waves, which, according to him, was his most significant one. With this,he proved that the earth can be used as a conductor. Once,200 lamps were lit by Tesla without using wires, from a distance of 40 km. By this, he produced artificial lightning, with flashes as high as 41 metres.

Tesla returned to New York in 1900 and began construction of a wireless world broadcasting tower on Long Island. He had $150,000 funds from an American financier named J. Pierpont Morgan. But he had to abandon the project because of financial problems and Morgan’s withdrawal. This was a huge failure for Tesla.Due to lack of funding, many of his ideas remained in his notebook.

Tesla was awarded the Edison’s Medal in 1917,which was the highest prestige that the American Institute of Electrical Engineers could grant. He died on 7 January 1913 due to coronary thrombosis (a heart disease). Many inventors still refer to his ideas for motivation and he will always live on in his works.

“Autism can’t define me. I define autism.”-Kerry Magro

World Autism Awareness Day is an internationally recognized day by the United Nations which is celebrated every year on April 2nd, spreading joy and awareness about people with Autism Spectrum Disorder throughout the note.

Autism? Well, the term Autism is a “developmental disorder of variable severity that is characterized by difficulty in social interaction and communication and by restricted or repetitive patterns of thought and behaviour.” Autistic people have to struggle to communicate is because autism alters the information processing in the brain that means that autism modifies how nerve cells and their synapses are connected and organized.

So if you ask why autism is given much preference than other disorders, the answer is that it is very common than you think. According to reports from the World Health Organisation (as per 7th November 2019), One in 160 children has an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). But some studies show that the numbers are subsequently higher. According to the CDC’s Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM) report, it has been stated 1 in 59 children have been dragonized with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Parents often notice signs of ASD during the first three years of the child’s life. And these signs gradually develop, sometimes worsening their communication skills and social life.

Autistic People often face many problems other than having difficulty in social interaction. They may find it hard to carry themselves in the right way as normal humans do. They may tend to show repetitive body movements and may have hypersensitivity to certain sounds which seem normal to us. Many children and young people on the autism spectrum have co-morbidities (co-occurring conditions and syndromes) which bring their problems and which may complicate the problems caused by autism and these include genetic conditions, neurological conditions, gastrointestinal problems, learning disabilities, mental health etc.

Autism doesn’t have a known cure but autistic people have gone through the management of symptoms or development of skills and support, which includes behavioural, psychological, and educational therapy.

Autistic people are unique in their way, some autistic people don’t find autism as a challenge and accept the way they are. But not all are the same. Some people may get frustrated while explaining to people what their condition is or may find autism as a challenge and face problems on a day to day basis. So, World Autism Awareness Day is an initiative for us to understand that not all are the same and some do need extra attention and care for comfort.

Respected school principal, teachers and my dear friends,
Good morning.

Cancer is One of the biggest health challenge we face today . Each year, millions of people are diagnosed with cancer around the world, and unfortunately more than half of the patients eventually will not survive.  With nine million deaths, Cancer is the second-leading cause of death worldwide and to make it worse, The National Cancer Survivors Day Foundation predicts that that by 2026, more than 20 million people will be living with cancer or be survivors of cancer.

In our global fight against cancer, February 4 is observed as World Cancer Day. The objective of the day is to raise awareness about cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment. It is estimated that from around nine million People who die from cancer least one third of common cancers are preventable. This means that up to 3 million lives could be saved each year if we implement effective measures for the prevention, early detection and treatment of cancer.

Students can play a vital role in this fight and it’s our duty to be a part of it. Some of the most effective steps to prevent cancer is by reducing your chances of  exposure to cancer related risk factors such as tobacco and alcohol, obesity, physical inactivity, infections, environmental pollution, work related carcinogens and exposure to other radiation. Five major areas where students can play significant roles in our fight against cancer are

1. Awareness about the usage of Alcohol and Tobacco
2. Importance of diet and nutrition, Food habits
3. Importance of physical activity and overweight issues
4. Importance of self-awareness, early detection and treatment of cancer
5. Raising funds for cancer victims.

It’s scientifically proven that most alcohol drinks carriers the risk of occurrence of many cancers, and even moderate alcohol intake increases the risk of cancer. It is terrifying to understand that Tobacco smoke contains at least 80 different cancer-causing substances and today tobacco use is responsible for around twenty two percent of cancer deaths. Excess weight has been linked to an increased risk of developing twelve different cancers, including bowl and pancreatic cancers. In general, greater weight gain, is associated with greater cancer risks. Regular physical activity not only helps to reduce excess body fat and the cancer risks associated with this, but being physically active can help to reduce the risks of developing colon, breast and endometrial cancers. Today, it’s a proven fact that that diets and nutritional intake, particularly diets high in red meats, processed meats, salted foods and low in fruits and vegetables have an impact on cancer risks.

As students we can bring awareness in the society about these facts by organizing poster campaigns on these issues. We must discourage people from the usage of Alcohol and Tobacco and educate them about the consequences. Any such incidences in our school should be brought to the attention of our teachers. Regarding the importance of physical activity, we must lead by example by participating in sports and other school games. We must not only follow a healthy diet.

There are a number of cancers which can be identified early which helps to improve the chances of successful treatment outcomes. This can also lower the treatment costs and with fewer side effects for patients. New branches of cancer treatment like Immuno therapy, hormone therapy and gene therapy and evolving. We can prepare small educational pamphlets and distribute and invite experts to our schools to take classes on these topics. Cancer is a very expensive disease. We can  support cancer victims financially by raising funds and donate to cancer hospital or patients.

Dear friends, its time to leave the passive mode. Cancer is a reality and it could happen to anyone at any time. and we need a coordinated social work to get rid of it. Today ,on World Cancer day, let us take a pledge that we will join this fight and will take an active role in our own way. Together we can achieve a lot.

Thank you

The world is getting more globalized and is witnessing wealth getting accumulated more and more into the hands of few. The issues of poverty is elevating across the world, irrespective of development. If there is one factor which can further complicate and make these situation worse, it’s none other than corruption.

Corruption may be defined as the misuse of power or influence through monetary or other ways to gain undeserved benefits. Most common form is the bribe and kickbacks given or received to undercut the normal processes and gain huge, undeserved profits. It’s an epidemic which has infested all countries irrespective of their wealth or location. Corruption is now a reality and is present in every segment of the society, whether its governments, politics, judiciary, military or even media. Its will he be huge shock to know that the top ten corrupt countries in the world hold more than 10,000 Billion Dollars of black or corrupt money. This is much more than the national budgets of many advanced countries and so is a treat to even governments.

The effects of corruption has multiple faces and effects. The United Nations in its study has concluded that corruption breeds poverty and is a destroyer of human prosperity. The accumulated black money completely bypasses the tax systems, there by draining government income. This results in the decrease of public spending by the governments, there by affecting the lives of deserved citizen. Poor public spending will also negatively influence and drive away commented citizen as more and more people try to get away from taxes as they view it as useless. Another effect of corruption is the way it encourages unhealthy competition and destroys entrepreneurs and innovation. It gives huge advantage to incompetent players  there by destroying efficiency and competence. Now a days corruption has even infected the media,  which can lead to the propagation of biased and scripted news, heavily influencing the common man and the public opinion. Often, corruption also leads to the formation of organized cartels which is a threat to law enforcement and has the potential to destabilize the society. In short, it can destroy the progress of a nation and throw it back into the dark ages of anarchy.

So how we can tackle this problem. As children, do we have a role in it ? Yes. We are the leaders of tomorrow. Fight against corruption starts from our firm commitment that we will never pay bribes or will accept them in our life. If we can develop a committed young generation with this firm belief, we can make a big change. We have several examples of how a committed leadership can make a big impact against corruption and black money. We will also commit our self to report corruption to the concerned authorities. Another solution is to go for complete digitization and making the process more transparent to the public there by eliminating the chances of corruption. So let’s be optimistic and dream about a corruption free society in our life time itself.

Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in Kentucky. His mother died when he was young. At the age of 22, Abraham Lincoln struck out on his own, making a living in manual labor. Can we imagine a world without boundaries? A world which is not divided by nation, religion, caste, creed and language .A world with no wars, where people experience ultimate peace, happiness, and get immersed in the laps of our mother nature. In that world, every evil will get destroyed through the collective wisdom of people and not through wars. This might seems like a day dream. But it’s the ultimate goal for mankind. Today philosophies of hate, mass destruction, killing and violence are evolving and spreading fast. Violence among women and children is at its peak. Wars are fought everywhere without any objectives.

Can we see a ray of hope? Life is all about optimism and positive thinking. If this world needs to change, only one force can make it happen. We the youth is capable of making this world united, safer, cleaner and stronger. But it has to start with a self-realization of our inner self. We are the only judges of our own actions and our tomorrows greatly depend on what we think. Future is nothing but the reflection of our own thoughts. Let’s look at this world in a different perspective. This world not only belongs to me and you. It belongs to everybody and our duty is to peacefully coexist and preserve it for the future. The ultimate reality could be one, but there are many paths to it. Everything in the world should be respected for the role it plays. Whether it’s a stone, the trees around us, the mountains, oceans, animals, plants or birds, all are part of this one world without which this world seems so dry and mechanical. Can we imagine such a world? If we can imagine like this, this thought will be the foundation stone for a one world. Start building this one world with this simple thought in your mind. From tomorrow onward, let’s look at everything around us in a different way. Let’s present a smile to our neighbors, Lets feel the raindrops, lets appreciate others views , Lets help other. This is how we should build a one world. A young, dynamic one world, built on values like love, harmony and mutual respect.
