In today’s modern world, there are a lot of technological advancements. There are about a hundred different gadgets that can do almost everything. We can get any information we need with just a click of a mouse. There is no need to spend hours in a library, flipping through numerous books in order to find a little piece of information. But even though technology has made things so much easier, books will still be a very important part of our lives.

Books are magical. They can pull you into a world that seems so real that you get lost in it. The poetic words weave beautiful scenes that come together into a magnificent story. You can travel around the globe by just sitting at home and reading a book. You can adventure through forests, sail across the oceans and conquer mountains. And for all this, you just need a book that whisks you away to another foreign world.

Now, you may ask me, what difference is there between books and gadgets? I mean you read the same stuff either way, right?

But, truthfully no matter how many gadgets are developed in place of a book, not even one can quite come close to the comfort that it can offer. The feel of the coarse paper beneath your fingers and the beautiful smell of the pages, all this is part of the experience of reading a book. There is nothing more relaxing than curling up in a corner with a book in your hand and a coffee by your side.

Besides when you read from a gadget, whether it’s a Kindle or an iPhone or a MacBook, we are still staring at a screen. It can be really harmful for our eyes. So, trust me when I say that nothing can ever, truly replace the simple, beloved and trustworthy book.

Reading books has tons of benefits. First of all, there are lots of different genres. Mystery, fiction, fantasy, romance, science-fiction, non-fiction and hundreds more. We can learn something different from each and every one. And now, I am going to try to list the benefits of reading. Just brace yourself, ‘cause there are a lot.

Reading can improve your imagination. The crazy twists and turns and the plot itself can inspire us in new ways. Then, there is the matter of the words. There are thousands of words in a single book. There may only be a few new words in there but it can also teach you many other things about words. We can learn new idioms and expressions as well.

And then there is the information. In a book, there is the possibility of discovering something in each and every sentence. You can never know where knowledge lurks in the pages of a book, waiting to be discovered.

There are also numerous biographies written by great personalities. These too are books worth reading. They give us insight into a person’s life. We can travel with them as they conquer the different obstacles in their life. These biographies can teach us a lot of things. It can help us handle failure, be hard working and get through the challenges in life.  Some popular biographies to try are “Wings of Fire” by A.P.J Abdul Kalam, “The Diary of a Young Girl” by Anne Frank and “I am Malala” by Malala Yousafzai.

Reading books is a skill that needs to be encouraged in childhood itself. As I have explained before, it has many benefits. Along the years, there have been many great authors like J.K. Rowling, Rick Riordan, Enid Blyton, Charles Dickens, Eoin Colfer and more.

So get hold of a book, sit down and get lost in a magical world. And you will surely have time because its lock down, right? So spend your infinite time reading, because that is the best thing to do when bored.

Don’t forget,

“Today a reader, tomorrow a leader.”

“FOR EVERY MINUTE YOU ARE ANGRY, YOU LOSE SIXTY SECONDS OF HAPPINESS”

Happiness is a wonderful feeling. We all have our own reasons for being happy. Some feel happy when they eat food, some feel happy when they travel etc.  let me share with you some of the things that makes me happy.

The small and simple things in nature makes me happy. The swaying trees, leaping waves, buzzing bees, flying butterflies, growing plant etc. Reading books also makes me happy. Let me share with you an incident. An incident that really made me happy.

It was a very pleasant spring morning. My Mamma (my granny) woke me up. I was really angry with her because she woke me up in the middle of one of my amazing dreams. She told me to get up and get ready fast. I really had no idea why. I freshened up and went down stairs to have my breakfast and to ask Mamma, why she had woken me up in such a hurry? Just as I went down, I saw the calendar on the table. Just then I remembered that it was November 9th. It was our ‘Granny-Granddaughter day’. How could I even forget it?

It was really very stupid of me to be angry at her when she woke me up, but a sorry would make it up. I ran to the kitchen and gave Mamma a tight hug and said sorry. She told me that it was ok. She served me my favorite food, which made me happy. Then we went out and hired an auto. You know I prefer travelling in an auto rather than in a car. The cool wind that blows and the greenery that swooshes away when we go. It’s incredible. I guess that it is one of the specialties of our country India.

We first went to the beach and rested and read books for a while. My Mamma took me there because she knew that I am a person who loves and admires nature and its beauties. I saw the leaping waves, flying seagulls, besides I started collecting the sea shells. Collecting sea shells is one of my favorite hobbies. After that we went to the aquarium. I could see a school of fishes swimming happily. There were many colorful water plants like lotus, hydrilla etc. I was very happy. Mamma then took me to the Snow World, where we played with the snow. There was a special section where there were penguins. I played with them. It was a fun filled day, but there was much more in store for me.

Then my Mamma took me to the zoo. There were all kinds of birds chirping around, the dancing peacock, the roaring lion, the elegant elephant and the tall giraffe. It was a wonderful sight. I really enjoyed it. Everything made me so happy. Then we went to have lunch.

Last but not the least, we went to the nearby farm to help the workers there. There were several kinds of grains growing in the field. All the farm animals were roaming about happily. Me and my grandma helped the people there in ploughing the soil, sowing the seeds and yes, I really enjoyed the part where I got a chance to bring back the herds of cows and goats before sunset. We had our evening snacks with them. I was super- duper happy. We then went back home. I thanked Mamma for making the day very exciting and happy for me. It was more of a ‘Happy Day’ than a ‘Granny-Granddaughter day’.

Happiness is not something that you can buy ready made. You need to find it from the things around you. It is not necessary that you will find happiness only in the bigger things in life. We need to appreciate the simple and small things in life. If we do not, then our lives become dull and boring. We will always have a grumpy behavior. We should be thankful to god for the blessings he has given us. So, let’s try to find happiness even in the smaller things in life.

Life can be enjoyed thoroughly by following the three Ls – Live, Love, Laugh. Statistics show that 77% of people feel stressed out and it affects their health adversely . Given the daily rush in our lives , we certainly can’t blame this 77% for feeling so. However ,most of us are not aware of the consequences of stressing out too much. Stress can result in High blood pressure, heart problems, diabetes and many other health complications. Apart from all this, we are also wasting beautiful moments from life stressing over absolutely nothing.

Enjoying life is usually hard primarily because of  our day to day problems. But above all these problems, our attitude is the issue. We must realize that If we take a deep breath and think properly, there is a solution for everything in this world.

It is said that we go to school to learn how to live. Unfortunately, value education is still considered as a lesser priority subject. It is important to have goals set in life however before everything, we need to learn how to live as well, How to enjoy every moment and How to find happiness in everything. There is no magic formula for living a happy life. It is a choice. So choose it. Being content should be the first and foremost goal in life. We can enjoy life only if we live it, not just by going through it.

The second L  is love. There’s a story about a woman who expressed her love to a stranger under rare circumstances. The woman was robbed by a boy. The woman chased the boy who kept running until she caught him. Instead of threatening him, she calmly asked the boy why he had stolen. The boy first gave back her belongings and the narrated his story. He had worked hard for a scholarship, but had failed. His father had invested a lot of money in his studies and they were a poor family. The family was devastated. Losing complete hope, the boy did the last thing he could. He stole. The woman was moved by his story and gave him whatever she could. She asked him to continue his studies with the money and not to lose hope. She reassured him that he would succeed one day.

Cutting short the story to a few months ago,  the woman received an email from a familiar name. It was the boy. The email was a ‘thank you’ to the woman for being so kind and igniting his hope at the right time. He had gotten a job through the scholarship that he won and his first salary was completely for the woman. The woman’s name is Rekha. The boy’s Prakash. yes, this is a real life story. Rekha is a friend’s cousin and that’s how I know this story. This story like many others, has a message- simple acts of expressing love, in this case through kindness can prove to be life-changing. Enjoy life by cheering up others.

The final L stands for ‘laugh’. I have only one thing to say; laugh out loud whenever you feel to do so. And soon, you’ll find yourself living with out stress. Life is short. Time is fast. No replay. No rewind. So enjoy every moment as it comes.

Nikola Tesla  is known as one of the greatest inventors of all time.He made many great inventions like alternating current, tesla coil, remote control, etc. that changed the world, most of which are even used in our daily lives today.Let us learn a little about this intellectual’s life.

Nikola Tesla was born on 10 July,1856 in Smiljan, Croatia.Tesla was a prodigy, and could perform integral calculus in his head.In 1973,he contracted Cholera ,and his father ,who initially wanted him to become a priest, promised Tesla that he would be sent to the best engineering school if he recovered from his illness, and so he did.He did exceptionally good the first two years of his college, but in his third year,he got into into gambling and lost all his tuiton money and allowance.Realizing his mistake , Tesla  gambled back all his money, but he didnt have enough time to prepare for his examinations, and so, he did not receive his grades and did not graduate from the university.

In 1882,Tesla got employment in Paris with the Continental Edison Company. Here he gained an excellent deal of practical experience in engineering. In 1883,while he was in Strassburg for a work assignment,Tesla constructed his first ever induction motor. In 1884, he left the company and sailed to America and landed in New York with four cents,a few poems of his own and calculations for a flying machine. In 1888, the head of the Westinghouse Electric Company in Pittsburgh, George Westinghouse, bought the patent rights to Tesla’s polyphase system of alternating-current dynamos, transformers, and motors. This gave rise to a tug of war between Edison’s direct current systems and Tesla’s alternating current approach, which eventually won.

Soon,Tesla set up his own laboratory and where he could get innovative freely. He invented the Tesla coil in the year 1891,which is used today in televisions and other electronic appliance. He invented the X-Rays in the year 1895.Since there were fears on the safety of alternating currents,Tesla once lit up lamps by allowing electricity to pass through his body.In 1898,Tesla made public his invention of a boat guided by remote control.

He stayed in Colorado Springs from May 1899 to early 1900.Here,he made an excellent discovery-terrestrial stationary waves, which, according to him, was his most significant one. With this,he proved that the earth can be used as a conductor. Once,200 lamps were lit by Tesla without using wires, from a distance of 40 km. By this, he produced artificial lightning, with flashes as high as 41 metres.

Tesla returned to New York in 1900 and began construction of a wireless world broadcasting tower on Long Island. He had $150,000 funds from an American financier named J. Pierpont Morgan. But he had to abandon the project because of financial problems and Morgan’s withdrawal. This was a huge failure for Tesla.Due to lack of funding, many of his ideas remained in his notebook.

Tesla was awarded the Edison’s Medal in 1917,which was the highest prestige that the American Institute of Electrical Engineers could grant. He died on 7 January 1913 due to coronary thrombosis (a heart disease). Many inventors still refer to his ideas for motivation and he will always live on in his works.

Inadvertently or not, technology has reshaped the whole of mankind’s perspective.  It has made things simpler and easy.  We now have internet at our finger tips and one click can make a humongous impact.  And in today’s epoch the progress in Artificial Intelligence has attracted many eyeballs.  Consequently a world without technology is unfathomable.

As technology is ubiquitous it has made learning more collaborative and inclusive which has helped teachers and students work in tandem to achieve their goals. Educators spend a lot of time evaluating and grading the student but with the introduction of Artificial Intelligence there has been a depreciation of about 7% in the expenditure of time thus also helping the educators to update the learning contents systematically.  Recently Singapore, Japan and United Kingdom has adopted Artificial Intelligence Classes for students.  Artificial Intelligence also promotes adaptive learning where people from different background as well as people with various cognitive and intellectual disability / capacity can work together in an integrated environment.

Likewise a coin has two sides, AI has its pros and cons; due to its great development in the field of education it has put schools, discipline and sense of obedience, reverence and punctuality in jeopardy.  And moreover it is bizarre and implausible to computerize all facilities.

Artificial Intelligence has also helped students to learn any time anywhere conveniently at their own pace. It promotes self-motivational and self-paced learning. In addition to this AI also helps students to be lucid and pragmatic.  AI also permits a person to foray a various fields enabling the person to acquire a whole gamut of experience and thus making a person more reliable and resourceful.

As children are the future leaders, the very essence of a nation’s progress; it is imperative to make the right choice — Artificial Intelligence

“Autism can’t define me. I define autism.”-Kerry Magro

World Autism Awareness Day is an internationally recognized day by the United Nations which is celebrated every year on April 2nd, spreading joy and awareness about people with Autism Spectrum Disorder throughout the note.

Autism? Well, the term Autism is a “developmental disorder of variable severity that is characterized by difficulty in social interaction and communication and by restricted or repetitive patterns of thought and behaviour.” Autistic people have to struggle to communicate is because autism alters the information processing in the brain that means that autism modifies how nerve cells and their synapses are connected and organized.

So if you ask why autism is given much preference than other disorders, the answer is that it is very common than you think. According to reports from the World Health Organisation (as per 7th November 2019), One in 160 children has an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). But some studies show that the numbers are subsequently higher. According to the CDC’s Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM) report, it has been stated 1 in 59 children have been dragonized with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Parents often notice signs of ASD during the first three years of the child’s life. And these signs gradually develop, sometimes worsening their communication skills and social life.

Autistic People often face many problems other than having difficulty in social interaction. They may find it hard to carry themselves in the right way as normal humans do. They may tend to show repetitive body movements and may have hypersensitivity to certain sounds which seem normal to us. Many children and young people on the autism spectrum have co-morbidities (co-occurring conditions and syndromes) which bring their problems and which may complicate the problems caused by autism and these include genetic conditions, neurological conditions, gastrointestinal problems, learning disabilities, mental health etc.

Autism doesn’t have a known cure but autistic people have gone through the management of symptoms or development of skills and support, which includes behavioural, psychological, and educational therapy.

Autistic people are unique in their way, some autistic people don’t find autism as a challenge and accept the way they are. But not all are the same. Some people may get frustrated while explaining to people what their condition is or may find autism as a challenge and face problems on a day to day basis. So, World Autism Awareness Day is an initiative for us to understand that not all are the same and some do need extra attention and care for comfort.
